Drawing textiles: “Thread lines” – NYC

15 November 2014

Currently on view at the Drawing Art Center in New York, the textile show “Threads lines,” until December 14, 2014. This group exhibition brings together sixteen contemporary artists who have crossed the line between art and textile. One can discover a beautiful selection of Louise Bourgeois quilts canvas – as graphic spiderwebs; experimental weavings by Sheila Hicks, but also a fascinating video by Korean artist Kimsooja entitled “Thread Routes” filmed in 16mm, showing Peruvian women traditional weavers and spinners who live in the Macchu Picchu hills.

Beautifully curated by The Drawing Center assistant curator Joanna Kleinberg Romanow, “Threads lines” expresses the delicate link between contemporary art and craft, drawing and textile, paper and fiber, from the thread to the yarn.
